: During the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty (1131-1162, reign name: Shaoxing), Xin Qiji, full of chivalries and patriotic feelings, witnessed the fall of northern China and the wars in the Central Plains, which made the masses have no means to live. Determined to recover the lost Central Plains and drive the Jurchens out of the north for the sake of national unity, he gathered 2,000 villagers and joined Geng Jing’s volunteer army against the Jin army. But while Xin Qiji won one battle after another, the commander Geng Jing was assassinated. Seeking revenge against the barbarian for the nation and for his good friend, Xin Qiji forged valiantly ahead and finally killed the traitor. He came back to the Southern Song court and embarked on a new road of serving his country.
